Press Conference

All our players gave it all and we are happy that we took the first step well.”

Asked if he was in contact with Dragan Skocic during the game today, Tot added: “Before answering this question, I would like to thank all the members of the national team support staff. Because they supported us a lot during this period. Then I thank Skocic for his hard work and for his hard work at a time when all the members of the technical staff were suffering from this disease. We kept in touch during the game and reviewed the different options and how the team performed during the match.

“All our players made a good effort against Syria, including Jahanbakhsh, who has started his job well in Feyenoord.”

Syria’s coach

Nizar Mahroos commented on the match “We had chances to score in this match, but we could not utilize them, however, I believe we did not deserve to lose and we could have scored. Iran is one of the best and strongest teams in Asia, but we put pressure on them.

“The goal scored by Iran has had an element of luck. ” The head coach of the Syrian national football said that Ahmad Noorullahi was a better player in the Iranian team.

Skocic and Hashemian still incognito.

The Syrians have no lack of confidence!

Nizar Mehros, the head coach of the Syrian national football team,  in the pre-match press conference said: “We have an important game against the Iranian national team. This match is held in special circumstances and the match against Iran is an important match for us.” He continued: “As you know, Iran does not have Sardar Azmoun and we have lost Omar Soma. That is a problem for both teams and our conditions are almost equal. Although Omar Soma is an important player for us, I believe both teams have good options who can replace them.”

Mahmood Al-Mawas, Syria’s key player who accompanied his coach in the press conference repeated his coach’s thoughts but recognized the strength of Iran.

Meanwhile, Abdul Razzaq Al-Hussein, the former captain of the Syrian national team, acknowledged that Syria’s task is very difficult against Iran. Al-Hussein said in an interview that Syria can return from Tehran with a satisfactory result and strong performance, praising the capabilities of coach Nizar Al-Mahroos.

“The match is difficult as it is an opening. The Syrian team suffers from important and influential absences, specifically striker Omar Al-Soma, who scores from half-chances. Despite that, the Syrian team will not be as easy prey as many critics expect. Our team has a good group of players and they do not lack experience, especially in strong matches. Therefore, I am optimistic and expect the tie to impose itself.

“Absentees contributed to the lack of any friendly matches with full ranks, and this alone confuses coach Nizar Al-Mahrous’s plans. But the Iranian team is better, more experienced, and more prepared. It is true that it is not in its ideal conditions, and it will play without the backing of its supporters. Therefore, the match will be even in this sense, but an advantage for the Iranian team is in speed. We have to support the players and give them great confidence before the confrontation that would have been in our favor with the presence of Soma and the rest of the injured players”

“What are the most important strength of the Syrian team?”

“All our players will fight and will not let their supporters down, we are sure of that, but the key to winning or a draw will be Omar Khribin, Mahmoud Al-Mawas, and Ibrahim, the goalkeeper. In addition to the enthusiasm of the rest of the players, the team must play without any pressure, and the capabilities of its players qualify it to achieve a satisfactory result.”

Nizar Mahrous appointed as Head Coach of Syria

The former Syrian National team star and current coach Nizar Mahrous has been officially appointed as the head coach of Syria.

The Syrian Football Association decided to appoint Nizar Mahrous to succeed the Tunisian Nabil Maaloul who reigned after the federation failed to pay his wages. The Federation said in an official statement, published today, Wednesday: “After the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Syrian Arab Football Association, three days ago, and after studying and discussing the names proposed by the Technical Department, the Coaches Committee, and the National Teams Committee, and after communicating with the proposed names, it was decided to appoint Nizar Mahrous as Technical Director (Head Coach) .

This is the second stint of Mahrous with The Syrian National Football Team. In May 2011, Mahrous was appointed manager of Syria. On 24th August 2011, he quit after FIFA disqualified Syria from the 2014 World Cup qualifiers for fielding an ineligible player.

Mahroos, who has previously trained several local and Arab teams and achieved good results with them, has a very difficult task ahead, as he will lead the Syrian team in the third qualifying round for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
