Tevez “I will be in Disneyland during the World Cup”

FORMER Manchester United and West Ham striker Carlos Tevez has said he’s given up on going to the World Cup in Brazil with Argentina.

The forward, currently playing at Juventus, has fallen out of favor with the Argentine management and Tevez is planning alternative ways to spend his summer. That would be one less headache for Carlos Queiroz when he faces the might of Argentina in the FIFA World Cup in June.

The former Manchester City player has been in decent form for Juventus this season, scoring 18 times, but at international level there is an embarrassment of riches ahead of him.

Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Higuain, Sergio Aguero, Angel Di Maria and Ezequiel Lavezzi all stand in his way.

Tevez said: “I don’t think I will watch my national team play at the World Cup. I’ve already bought tickets to go with my wife and my three children to Disney World. They deserve that trip and I have very clear in my mind where my place is.”

“I will nevertheless be Argentina’s number one fan. My candidates for the title are Argentina, Brazil and Germany in that order. I nevertheless don’t think I will be able to watch the games because that would make me very nervous and be nostalgic.”

Fans take to streets, social media to protest for Carlos Tevez

It is hard to believe that Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella would exclude fan favorite Carlos Tevez, the leading scorer in Italy’s Serie A, from the World Cup team. But it looks like that is what he is going to do, and fans are so angry they are going to social media and the streets.

On Friday, they held a protest march in Buenos Aires, demanding that their beloved “Carlitos” get a spot on the squad.

Tevez is the leading scorer for first-place Juventus this season with 18 goals, and is tied for the league lead. He previously played at Manchester United and Manchester City, and has always been popular with fans because of his humble beginnings and his tough style of play. He is actually favoured by many fans over Lionel Messi, who is seen as a golden boy who left for Spain at a young age.

But Tevez fell out of favor with Sabella, and has not played for the national team since the 2011 Copa America.

“I’ve got confidence in the strikers that I have. They are all stars at the highest level,” Sabella said after Argentina’s 0-0 tie in a friendly on March 5 against Romania.

It is hard to argue that the Argentina roster is already loaded with Messi, Gonzalo Higuain, Sergio Aguero, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Angel Di Maria. But Tevez is a world-class player who deserves a shot to make his nation’s World Cup team.

Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta is disappointed Tevez is being left out.

“Clearly Tevez is a man and therefore aspires to wear the jersey of his country, especially at a World Cup,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.

“He deserves it for his talents, but the coach makes his decisions. I think it is down to non-football situations we don’t know. As a professional, Tevez accepts this decision with disappointment, but understanding, realizing he can gain satisfaction elsewhere in his career.”

Argentina will be facing Iran , Nigeria and Bosnia-Herzegovina in Group F of the World Cup 2014.

Tevez has no World Cup hopes.

BUENOS AIRES (Reuters) – Carlos Tevez holds out no hope of being part of Argentina’s World Cup squad and prefers not to watch their matches on television, the Juventus striker said on Friday.

The 29-year-old, who has been in fine scoring form with 10 Serie A goals for juve so far this season, has been overlooked since Alejandro Sabella became Argentina coach in August 2011.

“If Sabella hasn’t called me up, I’m not going to phone him to find out why he doesn’t pick me,” Tevez told Argentina’s La Red radio station.

“Sabella must not be asked to call me up… Let him work in peace because it’s not easy for Sabella not to call me. I know there’s a lot of pressure especially from fans.”

The former Manchester City, Manchester United and West Ham United striker said he had a good relationship with the Argentina players and national team captain Lionel Messi.

“I have no problems with the group and I get on great with Messi. I don’t lose sleep over the World Cup. I don’t think I will watch it because it hurts me to see the national team, it’s bad for me,” he said.

Some media pundits say Tevez, who last played for Argentina in the 2011 Copa America quarter-final defeat by Uruguay, may not fit into Sabella’s tactical plans while others argue that he might disrupt the squad’s harmony.

Tevez was part of the Argentina teams that reached the quarter-finals of the last two World Cups in Germany in 2006 and South Africa in 2010.

Argentina, winners in 1978 and 1986, are in Group F with Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria at next year’s finals in Brazil which kick off on June 12.
