Queiroz’s end of the road.

It seems like the end of the road between Carlos Queiroz and Team Melli is finally a reality after some bizarre rhetoric by the Portuguese coach against Alireza Asadi , FFIRI , Sajjadi and the Ministry of  sport of the Islamic Republic.

After meeting with Ali Kaffashian to decide Team Melli and his letter of resignation , the Portuguese coach talked to the press and opened fire on whom he perceives as adversaries

The bulk of Queiroz’s contempt was directed at Alireza Asadi , whom the Portuguese considers as an enemy and accused him of being behind everything bad in Team Melli .

“I don’t know what a guy who does not know the difference between a football pitch and a potato field, is doing in the federation. All I know is that he has landed here via the parachute of the Ministry of Sport (…)” Queiroz said in reference to Asadi .

“They have won. They have done what thy wanted to do all the way and that is to discredit me and tarnished my reputation and that of Afshin Peyrovani.”

Queiroz did not munch his words  to the extent of criticizing his only solid support in the federation. Referring to Kaffashian, he blamed him for failing to stand against  Asadi and others  who wanted to harm him!

These verbal attack and accusations are nothing new as they are  a repeat of what Queiroz has said in several occasions. However, combined with the submission of his earlier resignation , it is more likely that Queiroz will leave his job.

Among more genuine grievances, Queiroz complained about lack of resources and training facilities for Team Melli.  This was one of the reasons he has mentioned as a reason from his intention to leave.

However , no decision has been taken at today’s meeting , another meeting is arranged for Wednesday.

It is highly unlikely that Queiroz will continue with Team Melli. Although the Portuguese has a track record for such maneuvers, he normally returned back without explaining the motives for his return.

After the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil , Queiroz publicly announced that he is not returning back to Iran.

Kaffashian orders Queiroz to cap it.

Ali Kaffashian , has ordered Carlos Queiroz to seize issuing any public statements without the FFIRI approval.  In a rare show of force against the uncontrollable Carlos Queiroz, the head of football federation is determined to put an end to the public squabbling that his undermined his authority and that of his federation.

In statements to the press Kaffashian told Mehrnews that both Queiroz and Asadi were at fault for meddling into each other’s duties. “Carlos Queiroz has no authority on Asadi and has no right to question his appointment in FFIRI office, while Mr. Asadi should not suggest players like Rahmati to team Melli, which is the coaches’ job.”

“If I , as head of the football federation , am asked about any player, I reserve judgment and refrain from suggesting or otherwise. I believe that is the sole responsibility of the technical and coaching team. I expect the others to follow suite.”

Kaffashian described that some of the public exchanges between Asadi and Queiroz as being childish like and detriment to the reputation of the federation.

Esteghlal club threaens to boycott Queiroz!

After the unprovoked attack by Carlos Queiroz on Rahmati following Esteghlal’s goalkeeper excellent form in the derby, the club issued a strong statement questioning Queiroz motives, his behavior and the continuous absence of punitive measure against him following a series of misdemeanors since he took over Team Melli.

With 10 days to go to the match against Turkmenistan in the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifiers, the Portuguese coach is already embroiled in several conflicts starting with the ethics committee who have issued statements questioning him about illegal payments from UHLSports, the Team Melli Kit providers and another public war with the Secretary General  of FFIRI, Alieza Asadi.

True to character, Queiroz has opened another front now, this time against Esteghlal club and Rahmati. Esteghlal, along with Persepolis are the two most popular clubs in the country and their response was rapid and very strong.

Extracts from the long statement follows:

During week, Iran’s national football team coach conducted interviews and issued several statements. His interviews and statements contents were full of cruel words both spoken and written. In those statements, Insult, humiliation, and flagrant display of antagonism, perhaps more than ever exposed Queiroz real character exhibiting his retaliatory behavior.

Carlos Queiroz has long been belittling various personalities, including the General Secretary of the Iranian Football Federation, players and sports officials, insulting and ridiculing them in the process. Unfortunately he has not been held accountable for such. In reference to the Captain of Esteghlal team, he has issued statements using ridiculous words in the hours of night and with a bizarre content that were astonishing and leads to questioning of Queiroz’s mental status and motives while creating resentment between millions of Esteghlal fans.

[pullquote align=”right”]”he has no right to publicly insult or question the character of the player.” [/pullquote]

Team Melli coach can assess the capabilities of players and consider their technical abilities to decide if he will invite a player or ignore him for selection to the squad, however he has no right to publicly insult or question the character of the player.  Are these tirades, statements and direct insults that he deploys a part of his character and culture? Perhaps this time Queiroz, and pursuant to the excellent form of Mehdi Rahmati ran out of technical excuses for not inviting him and found himself short of verse in the poem, even embarrassed, so he engaged in character assassination. Unfortunately, this behavior of his, once again typifies his extreme nature and as such his demeanor has to be severely questioned.

By using such method, Queiroz is putting his motives under question. His behavior and manners are totally rejected. In other words, social consciousness and human morality dictates that a foreign guest must have respect for Iran and Persian culture. Queiroz presence in major European teams has not enhanced his reputation as such, however it managed to create a great illusion of personality in his own mind surrounding himself with such false impression that he is beyond accountability.

With all due respect we have for the position of national team coach, Queiroz has overstepped the line, and took a bite more than he can chew and bigger than his mouth.

Now it is time to address how this person manipulative behavior like raising the flag of our country in frenzy, obscene gesture towards an opponent coach , insulting behavior against a referee and many other misdemeanors, that we all conveniently brushed aside  in the name of patriotism and protecting Team Melli.
We will stop providing players to be under the control of this type of character!
It is expected from both the Football Federation and the national team coach Carlos Queiroz to withdraw that absurd statement against Rahmati or deny it if it has not occurred. It is expected that both sides to apologize to the club, the millions of supporters of Mehdi Rahmati and the player himself.

If you continue this rhetoric and the use of inappropriate language by a national team coach, Esteghlal club will hold both sides legally and morally accountable, and shall not only seek legal action with these perceived insults, but will stop providing players to be under the control of this type of character!

We believe there are more to this than technical issues or matters related to selection of players, we suspect that the coach wants a way out and by creating such turmoil and turbulent atmosphere, it seems the ideal way of exiting.

When Queiroz says that Rahmati does not possess the character, he has insulted more than the players himself but tens of National coaches and other team Melli coaches like Daei, Ivankovic , Ghotbi, Faraki and Peyrovani whom all picked and selected Rahmati for Team Melli.

In Iran , the a person is judged on his character , behavior , respect for others , esteem and not by his monetary value, of course in a country like Mozambique it could be different.

Queiroz asks Asadi to stop meddling with Team Melli.

After the conclusion of the local derby between Esteghlal and Persepolis, Carlos Queiroz answered a few questions by the press attending the match in Azadi stadium. The head coach of Team Melli who is currently preparing the final list of player for the home match against Turkmenistan, said he was pleased with the match adding that it was the best derby match he has attended while in Iran.

Queiroz who is not overtly keen on watching the league matches preferring that his assistance do the job, was delighted by the form of some Team Melli players in both teams, however he declined to name any new players to be added to his squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the same Azadi Stadium.

Alireza Asadi – Secretary General of FFIRI

Queiroz as usual, took the opportunity to settle some personal disputes when he called upon the Secretary General of the Football Federation to stop meddling with Team Melli (…)!

Alireza Asadi and Carlos Queiroz have been at loggerhead since the former’s appointment in the federation. Asadi , a candidate backed by the Minister of Youth and Sports, has moaned at the fact that Queiroz has achieved nothing of significance relative to the huge amount of money her is receiving which is by far the biggest ever payout by the federation to a football coach . Queiroz has taken exceptions on Asadi’s remarks and at one stage he even demanded that the secretary-general be sacked as condition for his continuation with Team Melli. His demand was not entertained and strongly rejected by the FFIRI and in particular by the Ministry of Youth and Sport.

Queiroz also mentioned that he will face Asadi in the executive meeting of the FFIRI rather than settle any dispute in front of the press.

Mohammad Nabi leaves the federation.

Mehdi Mohammad Nabi, the Secretary General of the football federation has left his post without much ceremony. The FFIRI has appointed Alireza Asadi as his replacement.

in addition to his post,  Mehdi Mohammad Nabi was also the Manager of Team Melli. His last assignment was accompanying the team in Australia for the Asian Cup 2015 and before that; he was in Brazil in the same post.

Kaffashian embarked on a major clean up in FFIRI which included the ousted of several influential figures. Before the list was officially announced, in a hasty response to a reporter who asked if Mohammad Nabi is on the list, Kaffashian answered affirmatively. However, someone seemed to have reminded the head of FFIRI that incumbent Secretary General is also Team Melli manager and the squad will be leaving for Australia in a few days’ time. Kaffashian , quickly issued a correction to his statement and confirmed that Mohammad Nabi was still Team Melli Manager and he will continue his job as normal accompanying the team for the Asian Cup. During the whole of the competition, Mohammad Nabi was rarely seen smiling, not very surprising knowing that he is already sacked and just filling the gap temporarily. Thus Kaffashian , in his usual prowess , has created a fine atmosphere for the man to do his job!

Kaffashian and his administration are no stranger for such disorders and mix-ups and that was confirmed today when Asadi took over without inviting the press core to cover the handover , a routine exercise always carried out by the FFIRI. When Journalist quizzed the PR manager of FFIRI why the journalist were excluded from the ceremony, he replied quote “The press conference hall was full !!” Unquote.

The press conference hall was definitely not full of journalists as the few of them that were present, were behind closed doors.

Team Melli is officially Manager less now unless Asadi is appointed in the post. This is not the ideal situation and creates a conflict between the two posts. Mohammad Nabi was a temporary assignment until the federation could find someone that Queiroz approves of and likes. Not a simple deed to carry out. The common understanding in football teams is that the Team Manager is the top of the hierarchy, coach and others report to him. In Team Melli case, it works rather differently.
