Futsal Team Melli defeated Portugal on penalty shoot out after the teams were locked at 2-2 at the end of the game. Kazemi and Javid scored Iran goals after being 2-0 behind at the start of the second half.

There was no extra time as the match went into directly penalty kicks.

The victory gave Iran the third place in the FIFA Futsal World Cup Colombia 2016 .

This is the highest ever rank by a team sport in the history of Iran. The best ever world ranking was achieved by the 1989 futsal team in Hong Kong when they were placed fourth in their first ever appearance in the FIFA Futsal World Cup.
