Liverpool lining up move for Rostov & Team Melli Forward Sardar Azmoun

Liverpool are considering a January move for the FC Rostov forward Sardar Azmoun in response to Jürgen Klopp’s concerns over the loss of Danny Ings and Sadio Mané in the new year.

Azmoun has been linked with several Premier League clubs, Everton and Stoke City among them, having impressed for the Russian club since a controversial move from Rubin Kazan. Liverpool, with the newly appointed sporting director, Michael Edwards, leading their recruitment department, have monitored the 21-year-old this season and are considering an offer when the transfer window reopens.

The Iran international has carried his goalscoring form into Rostov’s Champions League campaign this season, playing an influential role in their progress through the qualifying rounds with goals against Anderlecht and Ajax and also scoring against Atlético Madrid in last week’s group game.

Azmoun joined Rostov in February 2015 on loan from Rubin Kazan, who appealed to the Court of Arbitration – and lost – when his current employers triggered what Kazan claimed was a non-existent buy-out clause this summer.

With Ings out for the season following knee surgery and Mané bound for the Africa Cup of Nations, Klopp has admitted that Liverpool require reinforcement in attack, specifically out wide, in January.

CAS overturns FIFA verdict on Sardar Azmoun

Team Melli striker Sardar Azmoun,  has been handed the good news following arbitration of CAS . He will continue playing for FC Rostov.

Azmoun who spent 2015-16 season at FC Rostov on loan from Rubin Kazan, was supposed to return to the Tatars at the end of the season; however Rostov triggered the buyout clause in Azmoun’s contract. Rubin  Kazan denied this clause and demanded that Sardar report to duty at Kazan as he is officially still a Kazan Rubin player.

FIFA ruled for Kazan however Azmoun’s lawyer appealed the case to CAS.

Finally CAS ruled in favor of Azmoun overturning FIFA’s ruling and he is now included in Rostov’s UEFA Champions League third qualifying round squad for the game against Anderlecht on Tuesday.

Azmoun finished seventh in 2015-16 Russian Premier League top scorer list scoring nine goals in 23 appearances, despite getting half as much playing time as some other top scorers.
He was also voted as the fifth most valuable player of the league, narrowly behind players such as Fyodor Smolov, Moussa Doumbia, and Brazilian superstar Hulk.

Sardar Azmoun continues to excel

Team Melli’s forward, Sardar Azmoun is continuing to impress in the Russian league with his team FC Rostov. Azmoun , who is on loan with Rostov has just scored his 8th league goal against Ural on Monday to set up a thrilling final round of the Russian league.

CSKA Moscow is leading the table with 62 points with one match to go , while Azmoun’s FC Rostov is in hot pursuit in 2nd place with 60 points. Interestingly, in the final round CSKA Moscow will meet Azmoun’s original team Rubin Kazan on 21st May in Kazan. A win will secure them the Russian League title.

Meanwhile FC Rostov will not be travelling too far with an away match to Terek Grozny  lying 7th in the table. FC Rostov must win to stand any chance of catching  CSKA Moscow in case of a slip up  in Kazan.

The Iranian Messi raring to go.

For the Iranian faithful, it has been quite some years since Team Melli has enjoyed the services of a truly reliable goal-getter following the retirement of international leading scorer Ali Daei. It is a fact borne out by Iran’s performances during Asia’s qualifying final round for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, with Carlos Queiroz’s side progressing as the lowest scorers among the continent’s qualified quartet, with just eight goals from as many games. Their campaign at Brazil 2014 proved disappointing in that sense, too, with just one goal scored.

Now though, with the meteoric rise of Sardar Azmoun, the void left by the world’s international goal-king is seemingly set to be filled. Seven goals from five matches is the impressive goal-scoring rate as the Rostov forward, who turned 21 in January, finished Asia’s second qualifying round for Russia 2018 as the team’s top-scorer. Notably, Azmoun completed his first international brace in their 6-0 rout of Guam, before striking twice as his side beat Oman 2-0 in the group concluder to progress.

Azmoun’s free-scoring form has seen him hailed as a goal-king in the making. But while fans are hoping he will assume Daei’s mantle, the lanky forward opted to downplay growing expectations.

“I will try (to be a great striker like Daei),” he told FIFA.com in an exclusive interview. “But honestly speaking, I don’t want to be occupied with goals like this. What I want is to help Iran and I am proud of scoring goals for my team. I am still young and I should concentrate on improving my skills.”

Queiroz trust
Just a year back, few knew who Azmoun was when he became a surprise inclusion in Queiroz’s 2015 AFC Asian Cup squad. Of course, those following Iran’s game closely are aware what he is capable of after his exploits with Rubin Kazan, the Russian side he joined as a teenager in 2013. He was on target eight times across 32 appearances for Kazan in all competitions, including breaking his duck by scoring in a 3-0 UEFA Europa League win against Molde.

“The coach (Queiroz) gave me the call-up (to the last Asian Cup team),” he recalled. “He placed plenty of trust in me. But for me, it was no surprise. I had anticipated that he would call me up and he did.”

It did not take Azmoun long to prove Queiroz right on the continental stage. After playing briefly as a substitute in Iran’s opening win against Bahrain, he was handed a surprise start against Qatar. Azmoun did not let the chance slip, repaying the coach’s faith by scoring the match-winning goal. He went on to open the scoring in the quarter-final clash against Iraq as the two sides were locked at 3-3 after regular and additional periods, only to see the opponents prevail with a penalty shoot-out victory. Despite the loss, Azmoun emerged as one of the tournament’s biggest revelations, alongside the likes of Massimo Luongo and Omar Abdulrahman.

“I was enormously happy to play for the national team in such an important tournament,” he continued, reflecting on his first major competition representing Iran. “For me, it was just like a dream come true. It provided me with confidence as well as motivation.”

Messi or Ibrahimovic
Azmoun’s club form has been similarly impressive. Since moving to play for Rostov on loan at the start of last year, he has dazzled spectators through his forward forays and goals. His fine displays have seen him among the most sought-after Asian youth stars, with rumours that he has attracted interest by the likes of Everton, Stoke City and even Barcelona. His growing popularity is such that he has been dubbed as “Iranian Messi” by fans and media alike.

Azmoun, though, thinks differently. “Zlatan Ibrahimovic is my idol player,” he stated. “And Real Madrid is my favourite club.”

With an athletic 182cm frame, Azmoun boasts exceptional aerial ability, consummate control of the ball and is known for his bursts of acceleration, creativity and adept finishing. “Azmoun has all the qualities to be a top-class striker,” remarked his former Rubin Kazan manager Rinat Bilyaletdinov.

With so many promises to live up to, Azmoun is all too aware what tasks are facing him. “Every player wants to show his best with the national team and I am no exception,” he said. “My chief goal is to help Iran (to the World Cup) and make our supporters happy. In order to achieve this, I must keep in mind that I have a lot of hard work ahead of me.”

Rubin Kazan coach criticizes Azmoun behavior.

The head coach of the Russian Club Rubin Kazan , Rinat Bilyaletdinov, has criticized the attitude and behavior of his Iranian player Sardar Azmoun. The Team Melli forward who was on loan to  FC Rostov, has been creating excuses not to return to Kazan according to the Russian coach.

“I don’t know who advises this player, whether it is his family , friends , coaches or his manager, but whatever they are telling him is not right and not professional. ” Bilyaletdinov was quoted in an interview published by soccer.ru. “He is a Rubin Kazan player who was loaned to FC Rostov. It was his wish to play for that team in order to re-unite with his previous boss in Kazan. We had no objection and allowed him to go. Now that the loan period is over, he should be back to his team but he is refusing to do so! First he said he is injured, so we gave him a few days to recover, but now he is no-show.”

Rinat Bilyaletdinov added “Since the Asian Cup , this player’s attitude has changed to he worse. He is not acting professionally and he is costing my team wastage of time and resources. If he does not want to play for Rubin Kazan , he should be man enough to tell us directly so we can sort the issue out. No need to play such games in this level of professional football.”

Azmoun on laon deal to FK Rostov!

In a strange move by the Russian League club , Rubin Kazan, Sardar Azmoun will be transferred to the bottom of the league club FK Rostov on loan basis.

Sardar Azmoun , was undoubtedly one of the best players in Team Melli in the recent AFC Asian Cup 2015 , in which he scored 2 goals. Azmoun has been playing his football at top level with Rubin Kazan scoring several goals. Recently , there were plenty of rumors and talks of interest by top European clubs who were after the 20 years old Iranian forward especially after his good performance in Australia.

Azmoun himself, recently denied that there was any interest from Arsenal although he did mention such interest a few months back.

The Russian league has just passed its halfway stage and Rostov is stuck at the bottom with 11 points from 17 matches played. Rubin Kazan is lying 7th and has no chance of winning the title but still stands a chance of playing the UEFA Champions league or the Europa league.

Ansarifard and Azamoun join Team Melli squad.

The two European based Team Melli players, Karim Ansarifard of Osasuna and Sardar Azmoun of Rubin Kazan have joint their teammates in Tehran.

With the arrival of these two, Team Melli is now training with full squad in preparation for Next week’s match against South Korea in Azadi. Today morning was the third training session under the supervision of Carlos Queiroz and most of the players were active in training including Hashim Beikzadeh who suffered a knock during training and given a day off.

Alireza Haghighi and Alireza Jahanbakhsh were given a day off following their late arrival from Europe , while Nekounam and Ghoochanejad were given light training in the gym as a recovery exercise following their involvement in league matches with their respective teams  before their arrival to Tehran.

Ashkan Dejagah in a brief interview with ISNA admitted that many fans were disappointed with him for leaving a European Team to play for a Qatari team “I am aware of such sentiment by some of the fans. It is a matter of people’s opinion and I respect that. I am the same Ashkan who grew up playing in Europe and will remain true to my standards and principles. The fact that I am in a different league now will not result in performances degradation.”

Dejagah also acknowledged that they are in a tough group n the Asian Games. “These teams prepared themselves well and played several friendly matches. I monitor Qatar team closely and I see that they have developed into a fine and organized team much better than what they were at a few years back. We have to admit that we are in a tough group and need to be at our best to qualify.”

“I urge the fans to flock to Azadi to support the team. The Koreans are here to take revenge after two consecutive defeats, We need the backing of the fans and I dearly hope that they will fill Azadi” the ex-Fulham player , Dejagah said

Editorial: How good Team Melli was vs. Nigeria?

There wasn’t much doubt as to what type of football we would be expecting to see from Carlos Queiroz men against Nigeria. It wasn’t much of a spectacle for the avid football fans but Queiroz has to be credited for achieving what he planned in the first place. The coach decided to play a strong defensive game and that game-plan was executed to perfection by his players and it worked. Mission accomplished.

We are still gauging the reaction of the fans, however in the early stages, we can feel the disappointment of many who felt that Nigeria was there for the taking, and Iran did not capitalized on it. With only two offensive players in the entire lineup in Ghoochannejad and Dejagah (substituted by Jahanbakhsh in 78th minute), the possibilities of rattling the strong Nigerians defenders was not an easy task. Ghoochannejad managed it once only and that was on a corner kick. That is about as much real threat that Iran created on Nigeria throughout the game.

The Nigerians were not the power nor even the threat that were hyped to be, mostly by the English press who are familiar with their players making their living in the Premiere league. While Team Melli was certainly much worse than their average , once the ball left the organized defense line.

Kenneth Omeruo beats Iran's Reza Ghoochannejhad in the air

While in the middle of the field, Nekounam and Teymourian did a sterling job on defensive duties both operating as holding midfielders, Hajsafy for most of the match was incognito , while Ashkan Dejagah , a key player with so much hope built upon him , played his worst game in a Team Melli shirt.

Under such circumstances, expecting the isolated Ghoochannejad to single handedly wreck the Nigerians was a tall order despite the fact that the Charlton Athletic forward performed quite well and managed to be a menace with his quick turns and accelerations while creating the only real threat heading the ball resulting in a terrific save by Vincent Enyeama.

Route 1 football straight from the defense to the forward line that Iran tried a few times did not work for Team Melli.

Despite the fact that Team Melli under Queioz game plan , achieved what they were hoping for , we need to be realistic and be critical to their overall game. Poor and incomplete passing was the obvious shortfall of the team. While Nigeria was cleverly moving the ball and with confidence, Team Melli could not complete more than a 3 or 4 passes, especially in the first 30 minutes of the game. World Cup phobia was in evidence. And then ‘Hail Mary’ balls, referred to as “Ali Asghari” football in Iran , was also a sign of desperation or panic at times. Some aimless cleared balls towards the Nigerian side hoping that one reaches the lone striker of Team Melli, never paid dividends. Almost all such balls, were intercepted by the Nigerians.

 Battle Obi Mikel Ghoochannejad

We do have to commend the tight and organized Team Melli defense as the real star of this match. In fact, with players like, Emmanuel Emenike, Victor Moses, Shola Ameobi and Peter Odemwingie  , Nigeria at least on paper , has a real potent strikers force with skills that can turn match results . The excellence of Team Melli back 5 defenders was as such, that the inexperienced Alireza Haghighi was hardly tested. Incidentally , Haghighi in goal is one surprise by Queiroz who is hardly known to take such risks. We may never know why he opted for the Russian club Rubin Kazan keeper, who did not manage a single appearance for his club before transferring to a second division Portuguese club Sporting da Covilhã and finally being able to play 12 competitive matches in two seasons. It will be interesting to hear Queiroz’s thought about Haghighi’s starting role in goal. Chances are that Ahmadi might had cold feet or stage fright and Queiroz have felt it and opted for the younger keeper.

A special mention should also be given to Team Melli aerial supremacy. Hosseini and Sadeghi were controlling the airspace in defense with forceful power of Tomcat F14’s of the Iranian Air force.

Iran Nigeria Heydari

Expecting Queiroz to change his game plan and be bolder in the next match against the might of Argentina, is probably not forthcoming. Iran will stick to what they do best and will be out there on June 21st to frustrate the trio of Messi , Aguero and Higuain. Teymourian and Nekounam defending from deep, while the 5 man Iran defensive system clearing every ball and doubling on Messi and Co. Iran’s only hope of making a difference offensively is still lies upon Ashkan Dejagah shoulders. His form will be the catalyst up front and in offensive moves. If he is contained by the Argentine midfielders, the job of Iran will be that much harder on all fronts. In his good day, we can see him beating the slow Argentine defenders for pace and skill to provide the ammunition for Gucci or score one of his wonder goals.

Too Early for Azmoun to go to Europe.

Rinat Bilyaletdinov , the coach of Russian Club FC Rubin Kazan , has praised his Iranian player Sardar Azmoun and predicted that if the young forward stays with the club , he will improve his standard and becoming a better player. The Tatar coach who has worked with Azmoun this season said that the young Iranian had a few difficulties this season but with his hard work and resolve , he managed to win the right to play some games .

Bilyaletdinov said that it is too soon for Sardar Azmoun to go to Europe.

The talented Sardar Azmoun has played for different Team Melli age groups but has yet to win his first cap at international level. His transfer to the Russian League club Rubin Kazan was a blessing and perhaps surprising given that Azmoun was not even classed as a starter or a regular full team player while on the books of Sepahan Esfahan from 2011 to 2012.

His career so far with Rubin Kazan can be rated as modest, mainly due to the limited number of games he has played. In his first season with the Russian team 2012/13 , he played 8 matches for the reserve team (B Team) scoring 2 goals. He never made the senior team list.

In the next season 2013/14 , there was signs of progress as he eventually made the senior team and also scored on his debut coming out from the bench. He made a total of 9 appearances and scored 4 goals.

Despite those low numbers, talks of big and rich European clubs chasing after the “Iranian Messi” has circulated around and was opportunely picked and spread by the Iranian media. Azmoun was interviewed by Fedowsipour in his popular Navad TV show where the Rubin Kazan forward revealed the interest of several big European clubs.

The main concern about such claims is that Azmoun might lose his track and can easily end up in oblivion if he is not properly guided to take the right decision.

However one looks at the career of the young player , there is nothing magical about his progress. At 19, he has a long way to go to make the grade in a professional European League. If he is being pushed to believe that he is a world beater, then there is a serious flaw in the mental state of the young man. Chances are high that he is being manipulated and taken advantage of by people who are after making a quick buck.. [/column]

[column size=”1/2″] Even if Azmoun ends up in Arsenal or Barcelona, the chances of him playing even a few minutes in the first team in a season, is as high as India winning the FIFA World Cup! It is wrong to assume that Azmoun transfer to big clubs is beneficial. There is a dark side to young and talented players market in Europe which Azmoun may very well end up in the trap.

Many of the richer clubs operate what is deemed to be a Glorified slavery system. Their armies of scouts travel round the globe looking to snare any talents. The shoddy part of this scouting system is the one that deals with teenagers, the raw talent players in the bracket of 15 to 19 years old. The rich clubs buys these players or bind them by tightly sealed contracts that are drawn by the most expensive of lawyers.

Several scenarios can be expected after securing their signatures.

The very small minority , those would be classed as special unique talents in the class of the greats like Messi , Ronaldo, Cristiano Ronaldo etc…will make it in the first team and most probably make a few headlines in the process.

azmoun-sardar

The absolute majority of the young players , will not that fortunate to be inducted in the first team or even the reserves. What happens to them is also divided into two parts. One group of them who can be loaned to other lessor class or lower division clubs, end playing in the lower divisions to gain experience, while the other group that cannot be loaned out, remain glued to the bench. The chances of them being utilized at top flight football are absolutely minimal. The only chance of playing football is during training only. That would be the real talent assassination for some of the promising young players.

In order for a young player to develop, he must be involved in competitive matches on regular basis. Azmoun will not be given such an opportunity at the bigger European clubs. It is much better for him to get playing time at lower clubs in Europe or elsewhere than warming the bench in Arsenal or Milan.
