Taremi was banned for four months because of a contract dispute with Turkish club Çaykur Rizespor dating back to June 2016, when the player reached an agreement to join the club and later returned to Persepolis.
After Joining Al Gharafa in Qatar playing for 1 season in 2018, Taremi then Portuguese side Rio Ave on 23 July 2019.
His impressive record with the middle of the table club attracted the big boys of Portugal as all the 3 top clubs were suitors.
FC Porto finally managed to attract Taremi. It was Mehdi Taremi’s best season ever as he scored 16 goals for his club Porto which finished second in the table.
