$The first foreign coach of Team Melli, the Hungarian Francisc Mészáros (also known as Ferenc Mészáros)
Mészáros was brought in to replace Iran first first-ever coach of Team Melli, Hossein SADEGHIANI. The mission was to qualify for the Asian Nations Cup 1960
The former Hungarian footballer coached Syria in 1954, and the Turkish club Besiktas JK from 1956 to 1957
Interestingly, Mészáros played for Romania and Hungary national teams.
Mészáros started on quite a spectacular note when Team Melli defeated the favorite Israeli National Team 3-0 in the qualifier of the Asian Nations Cup in Kerala, India on the 5th Dec 1959. However, despite a W3-D1-L2 record, Team Melli failed to qualify and hence the match against India which Iran won 2-1 against India on 15th Dec 1959 was his last.
