Salmani grew up in Khuzestan. He joined the popular Abadani team Sanat Naft made his senior debut in season 2017–18 Iran Pro League against Siah Jamegan.
Sanat Naft signed a one-year deal with Paulo Sérgio Bento Brito, a Portuguese coach in June 2018. He took the team to eighth in the Iran Pro League while utilizing young players. Jafar Salmani developed well under Paulo Sergio.
After the Portuguese returned to his home country and appointed as head coach of Portimonense, he asked the club to recruit the promising Iranian youngster. In December 2020, Salmani signed a 2.5-year contract with Portuguese club Portimonense, where he was reunited with Paulo Sérgio.
Impressed by his performance, Dragan Skocic gave Salmani his debut as he started the match in a 3-0 win for Team Melli against Syria in 30th.Mar.2021
