Team Melli to play Papua New Guinea on Friday

After the cancellation of Team Melli's friendly against Thailand, an alternative match has been hastily arranged against Papua New Guinea in Shah Alam Stadium in Malaysia on Friday Nov 11th 2016.

Papua New Guinea is a member of the Oceanic Football Confederation. Its highest ever FIFA ranking was 160, in June 2004. In its last match on 17th June 2016, international Friendly,  Papua New Guinea defeated  Malaysia 2–0 in capital Port Moresby. A week before that , it lost the Final of the OFC Nation cup against New Zealand in Penalty Kick out after a goalless draw.

Both result are quite respectable for a nation that is still competing in the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifiers.

Team Melli , on the other hand , needed a warm up match before facing Syria in day 5 of the World Cup qualifiers. It is expected that the legionnaire players to be available for the Friday match against the not very tough opponents.

Team Melli will be missing 4 major players. Goalkeeper Biranvand due to injury, Ando Teymourian for non inclusion while Azmoun and Hajsafy are suspended for one match each.

Liverpool lining up move for Rostov & Team Melli Forward Sardar Azmoun

Liverpool are considering a January move for the FC Rostov forward Sardar Azmoun in response to Jürgen Klopp’s concerns over the loss of Danny Ings and Sadio Mané in the new year.

Azmoun has been linked with several Premier League clubs, Everton and Stoke City among them, having impressed for the Russian club since a controversial move from Rubin Kazan. Liverpool, with the newly appointed sporting director, Michael Edwards, leading their recruitment department, have monitored the 21-year-old this season and are considering an offer when the transfer window reopens.

The Iran international has carried his goalscoring form into Rostov’s Champions League campaign this season, playing an influential role in their progress through the qualifying rounds with goals against Anderlecht and Ajax and also scoring against Atlético Madrid in last week’s group game.

Azmoun joined Rostov in February 2015 on loan from Rubin Kazan, who appealed to the Court of Arbitration – and lost – when his current employers triggered what Kazan claimed was a non-existent buy-out clause this summer.

With Ings out for the season following knee surgery and Mané bound for the Africa Cup of Nations, Klopp has admitted that Liverpool require reinforcement in attack, specifically out wide, in January.

Ando Teymourian is axed from Team Melli!

The latest squad of Team Melli has one unpleasant surprise as the Captain Andranik Teymourian has been omitted from the list. Teymourian, who has not started the last 2 matches for Team Melli, has been left behind and will not make the trip to Malaysia for the training camp or the match against Syria.  Team Melli will be leaving on Tuesday. 23 players have been named in the final list with notable absentees being Sardar Azmoun and Hajsafy who are both suspended. The foreign based players will join the squad in Malaysia. Other players who have been given leave are Souresh Rafei, Alireza Haghighi , Shojaeian and Aghayei

Iran to challange Brazil for the beach soccer title

Iran and Brazil advanced to the Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Final after beating Tahiti and Russia in the semi finals victories on Friday.

Iran Beach Soccer team , title winner in 2013, reached the final of the 2016 edition in Dubai by defeating Tahiti 8-6.

Iran goals were scored by Akbari (3 goals), Meisegar (2 goals) Blockbashi (2 goals) and Ahmadzadeh.

Iran and Brazil advanced to semi-final after having finished top of their groups courtesy of victories on Thursday.

The two teams maintained their perfect starts with against Russia and Tahiti respectively. Iran's victory was as a result of a  3-1 penalties kick off after a thrilling battle for top spot in Group B on Thursday night.  In the game of the day, Iran defeated Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup holder Russia 3-1 on penalties in front of a packed stadium at Dubai International Marine Club. The Russia battled back from 3-1 down to force extra time with goals from Peremitin and Makarov. The impressive Peyman Hosseini in Iran’s goal played a crucial part and he saw Paporotnyi miss from the spot as team-mates Nazem, Mokhtari and Ahmadzadeh all converted, ensuring Iran top spot ahead of its semi-final against Tahiti.

.The Iranians should have won in regulation time, up 3-2 as the match headed into the final 55 seconds, but Alexsey Makarov managed to find the equaliser in those frantic final moments to force the game to three minutes of extra time, and then penalties, where Russia could find the target only once.

The win means Iran, the 2013 champions, will meet Tahiti. The Pacific Islanders were earlier drubbed 10-4 by Brazil in the battle for top spot in Group A, but Angelo Schirinzi, the Tahiti coach, was not complaining.

"I prefer playing Iran because Russia is very strong," said Schirinzi, whose team faded away after going toe-to-toe in the first two periods of their match against the Brazilians.

Tahiti rallied twice in the second period – first from 0-2 and then from 2-4 to level the scores, but Bruno da Silva, who had opened the scoring for Brazil inside the first 40 seconds of the match, fired in his third of the period, five seconds from the break, to give them a 5-4 lead heading into the final 12 minutes.

In the third period, Da Silva added one more to take his tally for the night to five as the Brazilians took full advantage of the tiring Tahitians.

Earlier, Brazil ensured top spot in Group A thanks to its 10-4 win against Tahiti.

Iran punished by FIFA for disciplinary misconduct

IRIFF is to pay a hefty CHF 85,000  (US$ 87,784) fine to FIFA as a result of sanctions imposed on the football association for incidents during recent 2018 FIFA World Cup™ qualifying matches, including the discriminatory and severe unsporting conduct of spectators as well as religious manifestations.

In the match against Qatar , the altercation and the chaos that ensued Iran's first goal resulted in a fine on two players , Azmoun and Hajsafy and a 3 match ban for assistant coach Javad Nekounam. Improper conduct among supporters,  Unauthorized persons in the field of play (Nekounam)  and Team misconduct were in violation of articles 52 and 67 of the FDC article 26 par. 9 of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Regulations, according to the ruling body. That has incurred a CHF 40,000  (US$ 41,310) fine and a severe warning against future misconduct.

In the match against Korea, where the religious authorities extremely upset about the match being played in tasooa , a Shia mourning remembrance day. (the greatest of the sins) turned  Azadi stadium into a massive Husseiniya in clear defiance to the spirit of sport and FIFA regulations banning any form of religious and political expression in stadiums during football matches.

FIFA also accused Iran of organizing religious ceremony before the game and at half-time . Use of a drone during  the ceremony,  improper conduct among spectators by holding and displaying religious banners throughout the game,

As a result of violations of article 52 of the FDC + articles 4 & 5 of the Regulations of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia , FIFA has imposed a sanction on FFIRI amount of CHF 45,000  (US$ 46,473) in addition to a reprimand letter and a severe  warning.

Iranian football is notorious for displaying all sort of religious expression. In league matches, it seems that the authorities or at least the radical religious faction in the country promote and encourage such behaviors, while the Football Federation is too scared to punish the offenders in fear or reprisal by the radical religious faction

Despite many warning, this seems to be a repeat offense by Iran and subject to future sanctions or banning of matches being played in the country or matches being played behind closed doors.

Korean KI SUNG-YUENG admits to Team Melli's strength & organizations.

Tehran: Ki Sung-yueng blamed a demanding travel schedule for his below-par performance as Korea Republic slipped to their first defeat of their FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 qualifying campaign against Islamic Republic of Iran.

Ki (pictured, right) and his compatriots were comprehensively outplayed in their 1-0 loss against Carlos Queiroz’s side, with the defeat dropping the nine-time FIFA World Cup finalists into third place in Group A behind Iran and Uzbekistan.

And with Ki, along with several other members of Korea’s Europe-based contingent forced to amass significant air miles to feature in both games, the 27-year-old believes the travel had a negative impact on their performance.

“We are a little bit disappointed, but it’s always difficult,” the Swansea City midfielder told the-AFC.com. “I have to fly from London to Korea to play a game and then fly again to Iran in very harsh circumstances. Maybe some people will say it’s an excuse but it is hard to play in these games.

“Iran are very organised and defensively they are very good, and physically they are a big team. We didn’t handle that very well in the game. But we don’t need to be disappointed because there are a lot of games to come which we can win and we can get a good result in the next game. We need to find out what went wrong and then improve in the next game.”

The Iranians dominated proceedings and won thanks to Sardar Azmoun’s solitary goal in the 25th minute, handing the Koreans their first loss of the final phase of qualifying for Russia 2018.

The defeat leaves Korea on seven points from their first four games, two behind second-placed Uzbekistan and a further point adrift of Group A leaders Iran. Uli Stielike’s side face the Uzbeks in their next game in Jeju on November 15 and Ki is confident he and his team mates can bounce back in the coming games.

“It’s a hard situation, always because Iran is one of the toughest teams in Asia,” said Ki. “I heard they stopped the league for three weeks for the national team, so as a team they are very organised and their team work is very good. And also it’s always hard in this stadium. There will be some reasons but I don’t want to say why we lost the game. Maybe we aren’t good enough, but I don’t know.

“But I believe my team mates and I have enough quality to do well in our next games. This game was really a bit difficult and there are a lot of circumstances that made it very difficult. Our next game is at home and then we have two games in March, so we need to look forward to winning those games.”

FIFA suspends Azmoun, Hajsafy and Nekounam.

The disciplinary committee of FIFA has announced the suspension of 2 Iranian players and Javad Nekounam, assistant coach in Team Melli for unprofessional conduct following the game against Qatar in Azadi.

Iran prolific centre forward Sardar Azmoun and Left back Ehsan Hajsafy have received a one match suspension which will render them unavailable for the coming match against Syria. The two were accused of unsportmanship conduct following skirmishes with Qatari players right after Reza Ghoochannejad scored Iran's goal late in the match.

The real culprit , however, was none other than supposedly experienced and professional Javad Nekounam. The most capped player in Iranian football  , an assistant to Queiroz, who has spent a great deal of his career in the La Liga and other professional leagues abroad, acted childishly and provocatively while celebrating Iran's first goal. He also continued his nuisance celebration by entering the pitch.

For his misdemeanour, Nekounam received a 3 match suspension by FIFA.

The absence of Nekounam is not by any means a loss for Team Melli, as it is better for everyone concerned that the suspended ex-Captain watches the matches from the stands. The fear is that such misconduct might affect the behavior of some on the younger and the inexperienced members of the team.
