Team Melli Blog

One crucial match in the World Cup Stadium in Seoul will decide the fate of Team Melli in the World Cup Qualification 2010. A loss means the end of the road , a tie means some complicated calculation depending on the result of the match played in Riyadh , a Win could either mean a direct qualification or a play off berth.

Team Melli has never defeated Korea in Seoul and if Afshin Ghotbi can pull this one , it will be historic. Ghotbi , whose wife is Korean and has worked as an assistant coach in the National Team has been wildly quoted that he is the man to break the streak and defeat Korea at home. In fact his confidence (or over confidence ) is becoming disturbing and frightening. The Koreans will not be giving any aid or assistance to their ex-trainer despite their

qualification to South Africa. They will be playing with their full team and going for a win.

Team Melli on the other hand have a few problems to sort out with very little time left. The scoring has been abysmal to say the least , star players have been quite disappointing , the Bundesliga players are showing their age and last but not least , player dropping out of the squad for all sort of reasons.

The forwards have been the biggest sort of concern for the team. Hashemian has not scored for Team Melli for ages. In fact the last goal was against Korea here in Seoul . Borhani has been firing blanks and the most exciting player of the league the in form Khalatbary has been warming the bench and coming late in the games.

Ghotbi has promised a change of plan for Korea Republic match , it remains to be seen.

We have been actively building a new database using MySQL with PHP as a front end.

It will take a long time to fill all the data starting from 1941 when Team Melli played its first official match.  I expect many hurdles from  missing data , accuracy of data  , authentication , conflicting information to simpler things like spelling of players names.

After completion , this database will be the most comprehensive set of data on Team Melli in the world. As close as possible to a “Team Melli Encyclopedia” as it comes. All users are welcome to comment on data accuracy , errors , misspelling or an other matter relating to the database.

Decided to start this blog.

Why ? Not pretty sure  , really  ……..  no specific goals to achieve , simply a blog to air some views ,  get some comments and perhaps make the site more  interesting …
