Persian: علیرضا جهانبخش Alireza Jahanbakhsh played in several Team Melli age group teams and was the Captain of the U19 in the UAE in 2012. His scoring record is remarkable with the teams he played including the top tier league of Iran and the Persian Gulf league with Damash.
During the Asian Cup tournament in the UAE, where Jahanbaksh was impressive and one of the best players, the coach and the scout of the NEC team took an immediate liking to him, and soon found himself playing for the Dutch league team.
Made his debut with Team Melli under Queiroz after he joined NEC. Jahanbakhsh scored in his second match against Thailand in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifying rounds when he came in as a substitute.
His club career was not so successful as NEC continued its struggle for the second season in a row. NEC was relegated after a play-off, Jahanbakhsh however, was a revelation for the Dutch team. The 20-year-old scored 5 goals for NEC in 27 matches (11 as a starter) with 4 assists to his credit. The most famous of his goals were the two scored against the champions Ajax in Amsterdam Arena, to earn his team a 2-2 draw and a chance for relegation play-off. NEC was defeated in the subsequent playoff.
Despite his lack of experience, Jahanbakhsh has enough quality, skill, and energy to be included in the final list of 23 players for the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil.
