Behzad Gholampour made his debut in February 1990 in a 0-2 loss to Poland in Azadi 1990. In that period , Ahmad Reza Abedzadeh was the undisputed goalkeeper for Team Melli and many considered Gholampour as his reserve.
Many matches later , Gholampour emerged as a real threat to Abedzadeh and started taking the starting spot with some brilliant displays.
However , the disastrous display in the World Cup Qualification in 1993 in Doha , left him out of Team Melli for a long time.
