Asian Cup Winner 1968
Mostafa was born in Tehran. His passion in sport was volleyball where he was distain to become a famous spiker.
With the encouragement of friends he switched to football. At 16, he was discovered by one of the famous scouts Fereydoon Asgarzadeh and was taken to TehranJavan club, which was known for its academy and talented young footballer’s promotion. Arab was then joined Daraei team coached by the legendary Hossein Fekri.
While still 16, he was sent abroad as part of the Daraei’s team that was taking part in the Agha Khan tournament in Pakistan. Arab played at left back as Daraei won 2 matches but lost in the final. Daraei was placed 2nd.
His real break came in a local tournament in Tehran when his team, Daraei , won the title against all the odds facing the might of Taj , Kayan and Shahin which were all household names in Iran’s football. Immediately after that tournament 6 player from Daraei were selected for Team Melli which at the time was major coup that broke the monopoly of the two famous teams Taj and Shahin , on Iran’s Team Melli. After the 1958 embarrassing defeats in the Asian Games against South Korea and Israel, the football federation decided to dissolve the old team and start a fresh.
Mostafa Arab joined his Daraei teammates, Nasser Noamooz, Davoud Heydari , Gholamhossein Nourian , Mehdi Akhavan and Nasser Soltani in Team Melli. The team was preparing for participation in the Asian Nations Cup ( currently AFC Asian Cup). Iran had to qualify in a group that included Israel, India and Pakistan with match played in Calcutta.
Arab played 4 matches out of six while injured in the other 2. In this competition , Iran defeats Israel 3-0 to take some revenge at the heavy loss of the year before.
