Football competition at the 2002 Asian Games was held in Busan, South Korea from September 27 to October 13, 2002. In this tournament, 24 teams played in the men’s competition.

Age limit for the men teams was under-23, same as the age limit in football competitions in Olympic Games, while three overage players are allowed among each squad.

Iran won the gold medal and the title of Asian Games football defeating Japan in the final match.
Alireza Vahedi Nikbakht was the joint best scorer with Japan’s Satoshi Nakayama with 5 goals.

In the group stages , Team Melli was grouped with Qatar , Lebanon and Afghanistan.
