Parviz Qleechkhani  (sitting second from right) is the only player who played in the Iranian team from 1968 to 1976 winning 3 championship medals. He played 12 out of 13 matches and missed one match only, the 8-0 defeat of Yemen in Tehran 1976 tournament.

Iran played  13 games from the 4th, 5th and 6th  tournaments winning all their matches scoring scoring 36 goals conceding 6 goals only.

 

In 1972 Iran won the Championship for the first time away from home. The star of the tournament was Hussain Kalani, dubbed the man with the golden head for his prowess as a prolific header of the ball.

Iran is the only country to win three consecutive championship on a row.

Iran's biggest winning margin in the finals was an 8-0 win against Yemen in 1976 in Tehran.

  In 1976 Iran won the cup for the third time by beating Kuwait by a solitary goal from Ali Parvin's free kick.
