CHAMPIONSHIP
Kuwait 1980
With the increasing number of teams the mode of competition had to be
modified and the four group system was introduced in the 1980
Championship. Group Tournaments were played in Group I: Abu Dhabi, Group
II: Bangladesh, Group III: Bangkok and Group IV: Manila.
The 7th Championship was held in Kuwait from 15 to 30 September 1980. 17
teams participated in the earlier round of the Championship. Ten teams
competed in the Final Championship: Group A: Iran, DPR Korea, Syria,
China PR, Bangladesh, Group B: Korea Republic, Kuwait, Malaysia, Qatar,
UAE. The following teams qualified for the semi-finals, Kuwait, Iran,
Korea Republic and Korea DPR. Kuwait won the Final beating Korea
Republic 3-0. |
