ASIAN GAMES

Men’s football was an Asian Games sport since the onset of the games in New Delhi , India in 1951. In the first ever final , India the host managed to win the Gold Medal after defeating Iran 1-0. Iran’s football went to dominate competition by winning a record 4 gold medals in 1974 , 1990 , 1998 and 2002.

Since the 2002 Asian Games, age limit for men teams is under-23, same as the age limit in football competitions at the Summer Olympics, while three over aged players are allowed among each squad.
