Ali Reza Vahedi-Nikbakht is a young energetic midfield player who
managed to grab a regular starting role for his star-studded team,
Esteghlal Tehran in a short period of time. His excellent performance
for his club eventually lead to his inclusion in Team Melli roster and
he made his successful appearance in a World Cup qualifying game against
the hapless GUAM in Tabriz in December 2000 and scored on his debut.
Nikbakht's performance in Team Melli was instrumental in Iran's progress
in the WC qualifying round. However, his disciplinary problems has
created difficulties for the National team coaches.
His darting runs on the flanks and his pace remains continues to be a
great asset for his team. Despite several attempts, he has not managed
to find a European club to capitalize on his undoubted talents. His last
trial was with Atletico Madrid which did not materialize in a contract.
Nikbakht joined his ex-teammate Farhad Majidi in Al Wasl FC
of Dubai on a six month contract. After finishing that contract he
returned back to his original club where he helped the team to win the
championship.
An Injury at near the end of the season , will prevent him from joining
the squad for the World Cup.
