In its final training preparation, Team Melli will be flying tomorrow Sunday, 26th May to Dubai , UAE to set up camp just prior to the match against Qatar in Doha to be held on the 4th of July in Al Sadd stadium.

Carlos Queiroz ,  last assignment before this camp was attending the friendly international match between Qatar and Latvia (FIFA Rank 110) in Doha, in which the host displayed some impressive football defeating the European rival 3-1. The win was a morale booster for the Qatari team and in sharp contrast to the shaky result of Team Melli which lost to the reserve team of Oman 3-1 in Muscat.

The Portuguese coach of Team Melli admitted to the media in Doha, that his team’s task is going to be quite difficult in front of a much improved Qatar. He said that the new coach Fahad Thani has introduced some new faces that did not play against Iran in the first match. “I think the coach has managed to integrate these new players quite well in the team. The overall standard of Qatar has improved, and with the advantage of home ground and the fans, we have a tough task in this match.” Queiroz added.

The Portuguese coach continued stressing that he knows the potential of Qatar in spite of the changes in the lineup during the recent period, where Coach Fahd used many young faces. In response to a question whether he achieved his objective by watching Qatar match,  Queiroz responded “I am fully aware that coach Fahad has deliberately fielded a different lineup to conceal the features of the starting lineup of the team facing us. Under such circumstances, especially with new players in the team, it pays to use them in friendly matches, which certainly is normal because of the sensitivity of the position of the national team with a dream to reach the 2014 Brazil World Cup. ”
The Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, then went on to praise the role played by Qatar football Association which provided all the support from facilities to resources to serve Qatar football. Such support provides comfort to the technical staff and led by Qatari coach National Fahad Al-Thani and augurs well for his work to prepare the team to contest the qualifying Asian qualifying for the 2014 World Cup .“

Asked whether the Iranian national team was affected by the loss to Oman prior to facing Qatar, the coach replied: “I think that the loss will not affect the morale of the Iranian national team, particularly as the team that played in Muscat was our second team not the full team.”  Explaining further, Queiroz said “The game was part of the preparation for the upcoming confrontation against Qatar next month.”

On the non-use of legionnaire players in the match against Oman, the coach said: “The lack of time was not in our favor, especially as there was a game in the AFC Champions League involving Esteghlal and also some mandatory rest period for the European based players, which meant that we were unable to use a large percentage of our full team.  However, the team played well despite the loss against Oman.”
Portuguese coach praised his team’s performance despite the loss, particularly as it was a good opportunity to observe the standard of the players before the Qatar match (…) He pointed out that the performance will improve after the arrival of the core of the team, as well as the inclusion of professionals in Europe to strengthen the ranks of the Iranian national team.

Queiroz confirmed that it would sitting in the stands rather than the bench during the Qatar match as he is serving a two match ban by FIFA .
On Saturday’s final training session , a group of ex-players and dignitaries showed up in Team Melli camp to wish the team well , encourage them and boost the morale.  One of those who visited the camp was the recently

retired Ali Karimi who was greeted and hugged by Carlos Queiroz. Other personalities that visited the camp included Mayeli-Kohan , Majeed Jalali , Hameed Estili , Framarz Zelli , Majeed Namjo-Motlagh , Afshin Peyrovani and Karim Bagheri.

In an interesting move, all the players wore a t-shirt in support of the injured Ashkan Dejagah who will be operated upon soon and will be sorely missed until the end

of the World Cup qualifications round. The players took a photo-shoot with “We are with you” slogan T-shirt before continuing training.

Dhaka: Iran bounced back from their opening defeat to the Philippines with a 2-0 win over Bangladesh on Thursday that kept alive their hopes of reaching the 2014 AFC Women’s Asian Cup finals.

Iran made a disappointing start to their qualifying campaign when they were hammered 6-0 by the Philippines but picked up a vital win against Group B hosts Bangladesh, with Maryam Rahimi put the Iranians one up 26 minutes into the match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium before sealing the victory six minutes after the interval.

Iran, who are under the helm of Portuguese tactician Helena Costa, the first-ever coach of the Qatar women’s team, take on undefeated Thailand in their final match on Saturday while Bangladesh will be looking to end on a positive note when they face the Philippines on the same day.

IRIFF neglect threatens Iran-U19 team prospects.

Kuala Lumpur.

The draw for the qualifiers for the AFC U-19 Championship 2014 to be held in Myanmar has been carried out in AFC Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Iran’s U19 team has been pitted in Group D alongside Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Tajikistan. The qualifying rounds will be hosted by Iran and will be held in Mashhad from 11 October 2013.

The football federation has been slow to react and failed to appoint a coach after the previous one Akbar Mohammadi resigned his post following the failure & elimination of Iran in the Asian Youth Championship with a defeat against the eventual winner, South Korea.

The bitter defeat also resulted in the resignation of the team’s manager, Fereydoon Moeini whose post was quickly vacated by Mirshad Majedi. With this appointment, it was hoped that a new coach will be selected and the team continues its program for the qualification round, but Majedi and the federation failed to appoint a head coach despite the fact that several nominees were named. Initially, Ali Doustimer was the prime candidate, but the U-17 coach is already fully occupied with his team which is actively preparing for the finals of FIFA U17 World Cup to be held in the UAE.

IRIFF , Secretary General  Mehdi Mohammad Nabi announced on several occasions that a coach will be named to begin the preparation process for the youth team , but he failed to deliver after each promise  while the team remains without a coach.

The AFC U-19 Championship also serve as the qualifiers for the FIFA U-20 World Cup with the top-four sides of the 2014 edition booking a place each in the FIFA U-20 World Cup to be held in New Zealand in 2015.

Korea Republic, who edged Iraq in the final of the competition in 2012, have won the competition 12 times since it started in 1959. The finals, to be held in Myanmar for the very first time, are the 38th edition of the competition.

The Group winners of the nine groups; five from West Zone and four from East will book a ticket to the October 2014 finals alongside with six best-placed sides and hosts Myanmar.

Ghassimpour supports Queiroz position.

Ebrahim Ghasimpour , the ex-Team Melli player who played for Iran in the FIFA World Cup 1978 in Argentina, beleives that Carlos Queiroz was right in excluding both Mehdi Rahmati and Hadi Aghili from the team. Ghasimpour said that discipline in Team Melli and football is a fundemental requirement that should not be taken lightly and shall not be compromised.
Ghasimpour who has coached several league clubs, but currently is looking for a vacancy, was puzzled by the last match of Team Melli against Oman. He said that ” the result was quite disappointing , and I am not aware what was in Queiroz mind when this friendly match was arranged. I am not sure of the objectives and that needs to be answered by the coach of Te Melli, however I find it odd to play a friendly in preperation for the match against Qatar while the majority of the players are not available !”
Asked about his opinion of Team Melli chances to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil , Ghasimpour said: “Realistically , we are in dire need of a miracle. We have a very difficult job ahead of us, however , we must never lose hope in such situations.”

25 Players called for the final rounds of WC Qualifiers.

The final list for the remaining 3 matches in FIFA World Cup 2014 has been announced ny the Team Melli technical staff. The squad will be setting camp in the UAE ahead of the match against Qatar in Doha on June, 4th.

Notable absentee from the list is Ashkan Dejagah who is injured for the rest of the season and will be sorely missed. There is also no place for Daniel Davari , the German/Iranian goalkeeper whom was expected to join the squad for the 3 crucial matches. No explanation was available for his absence and whether it is a technical decision or as before, the non availability of the goalkeeper.

The squad now has the recently crowned league Champion Estghlal players with a recall for Hashim Beikzadeh and Amir Hossein Sadeghi , both defenders have been absent from Team Melli for a long time.
